On a computer that is provided with a desktop kind of user interface, wallpaper is the background pattern or picture against which desktop menus, icons, and other elements are displayed and moved around. A wallpaper image can be in a JPEG or a GIF file format. Wallpaper is commonly used in Microsoft Windows, Macintosh Mac OS, Linux, and in other operating systems as well.
Each operating system provides several pre-installed wallpapers for users to choose from, but they can also choose to download and install third-party wallpapers and use one of these instead, and give more personalized look to their computers.
The author of this website often change wallpapers on his computer, and he has been collecting good, quality, eye-candy wallpapers over the past few years. Then, at the beginning of 2005, a "briliant" idea came up -- why not make a web site, and put all the wallpapers (well, not *all* exactly, just the best of them) there? It surely is more interesting than collecting.
